Saharnaz Sepandifard is an Iranian illustrator and animator based in the Netherlands. She holds an MA in Animation from Avans University of Applied Sciences and an MA in Illustration from the Art University of Tehran. After years in editorial illustration, she turned to animation, focusing on children’s media and psychological themes. Quiet Shell, her debut film, offers a gentle space of recognition for introverted children.

The Quiet Shell è un delicato cortometraggio animato senza parole che segue un piccolo corvo silenzioso, diverso dagli altri perché non ama volare come i suoi coetanei. Mentre gli altri si librano felici nel cielo, lui osserva, riflette e scopre il mondo con tempi più lenti, sentendosi talvolta escluso nonostante l’affetto attento della madre. Nel tempo trascorso da solo, la sua immaginazione prende forma e diventa uno spazio di gioco e conoscenza. Il film racconta con dolcezza il valore dell’introspezione e dell’ascolto di sé, offrendo ai più giovani un ritratto inclusivo della diversità e ricordando che esistono molti modi, tutti legittimi, di trovare il proprio modo di “volare”.

Saharnaz Sepandifard è un’illustratrice e animatrice iraniana con base nei Paesi Bassi. Ha conseguito un MA in Animazione presso la Avans University of Applied Sciences e un MA in Illustrazione alla Art University of Tehran. Dopo una lunga esperienza nell’illustrazione editoriale, si avvicina all’animazione con una ricerca rivolta ai media per l’infanzia e ai temi psicologici. Quiet Shell, il suo primo film, nasce per offrire ai bambini più introversi uno spazio di riconoscimento e ascolto.

The Quiet Shell is a gentle, wordless animated short about a small crow who experiences the world differently from the others. While the young crows joyfully soar through the sky, he prefers to observe, think, and explore at his own quiet pace, which sometimes leaves him feeling apart, despite his mother’s loving support. In moments of solitude, his imagination blossoms, becoming a space where play and self-understanding grow. With tenderness and simplicity, the film celebrates introspection, sensitivity, and individuality, offering young audiences an inclusive portrait of difference and reminding us that there is more than one way to fly—and to belong.
