Allo zoo di Central Park a New York, il leone Alex è la star più amata e vive comodamente insieme alla zebra Marty, alla giraffa Melman e all’ippopotamo Gloria. Ma Marty sogna la libertà e fugge, dando il via a una serie di eventi che porta gli amici lontano da casa. Dopo un naufragio, arrivano in Madagascar, dove questi animali molto “civilizzati” dovranno imparare a sopravvivere nella natura selvaggia, tra predatori e lemuri eccentrici guidati da Re Julien.

At New York’s Central Park Zoo, Alex the lion is the star attraction, living comfortably with Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo. But Marty dreams of freedom and runs away, setting off a chain of events that sends the friends far from home. After a shipwreck, they land in Madagascar, where these very “civilised” animals must learn to survive in the wild, among predators and eccentric lemurs led by King Julien.

Eric Darnell e Tom McGrath sono registi di animazione statunitensi legati a DreamWorks Animation. Darnell ha diretto il primo lungometraggio dello studio, Z la formica, mentre McGrath è noto anche come voce di Skipper e come regista di Megamind e Baby Boss. Insieme hanno creato Madagascar, unendo animazione dinamica, tradizione cartoon e umorismo contemporaneo per costruire personaggi capaci di parlare a bambini e adulti.

Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath are American animation directors closely linked to DreamWorks Animation. Darnell directed the studio’s first feature film, Antz, while McGrath is also known as the voice of Skipper and as director of Megamind and The Boss Baby. Together they created Madagascar, combining dynamic animation, cartoon tradition and contemporary humour to build characters capable of speaking to both children and adults.
